As featured in Architectural Digest, Doumani House is an incomparable 6,603 sf beachfront architectural masterpiece. This Marina del Rey residence is the result of four years of planning and construction, with every detail meticulously designed to maximize the natural light of its location. Thinking beyond conventional design, renowned sculptor Robert Graham divided this 4- bedroom, 3-bathroom, 3-powder residence into two distinct geometric units, east and west wings, framed by sleek black glass windows. His vision was to commission contemporary artists rather than craftsmen to transform the home into a living masterpiece, seamlessly integrating site-specific art into its structure to meditatively blend art, design and the natural beauty of the beach. The home’s allure lies in its immaculately balanced proportions and Graham’s inclusion of artist- designed doors, windows, cabinetry, frescoes and furniture, making art an integral part of daily life. The house transforms gracefully throughout the day based on Graham’s masterful utilization of natural light and its reflections, revealing nature as the ultimate artist of the residence.

The foyer opens through dramatic stained glass double doors, leading into a stunning sunrise to sunset fresco, both created by David Novros. The colorful glass tile reflections play off the walls in a mesmerizing visual dance beckoning one inside. The heart of the home, the open dining and living room, is anchored by a towering two-story window topped with a reflective step motif that rises to invite in ocean breezes. A ledge running the length of the window serves as a peaceful perch for meditative moments overlooking the beach, the ocean, and beyond. Ascend the architectural staircase to an office with an en suite bathroom and serene ocean views. Another flight of stairs leads to the sumptuous primary suite. Stunning details include balustrades with Waterford crystal-etched panels designed by Billy Al Bengston, overlooking the beach and living room below. Angled hardwood flooring seamlessly guides the eye to the corner walls framed by floor-to-ceiling mullioned black glass and steel windows. The primary suite is completed by separate walk-in closets with bespoke cabinetry, elevator access and windows spilling in ambient light. A final flight of stairs leads to a private, sprawling rooftop, offering sweeping views of the Marina channel and the ocean spanning from Palos Verdes to Malibu.

Descending back to the main level, unique slabbed angled marble flooring leads into the east music room, a space designed for extraordinary moments. A sitting area offers an idyllic vantage for viewing Ed Moses’s built-in etched steel window frame, where the ever-changing nature outside becomes the framed art within. The majestic cascading waterfall atop the skylight, designed by Eric Orr, reflects down the pristine white wall in a shimmering pattern, bouncing off the expansive overhead mural skylight by Terry Schoonhoven, crafting a spectacular marriage of light and water. An adjacent open dining area, perfect for entertaining, showcases soaring windows and Robert Graham bronze plaques embedded in the walls. The east wing back stairs lead to two upstairs guest bedroom suites, one with a cozy sitting room and private rooftop access. The well-appointed gourmet kitchen includes a hidden working kitchen and a display kitchen with custom cabinetry, opening to the dining room, highlighted by an elegant Dale Chihuly chandelier.

Whimsy unfolds throughout the residence, delighting and surprising at every turn, creating palpable magical moments for both art and beach lovers alike. Additional luxurious amenities include a 4-stop elevator, a lap pool and a casual lower-level theater/family room/gym with custom shelving and 4-car garage.

Doumani House is a serene respite just minutes away from Santa Monica, Westwood and Beverly Hills. It evokes the timeless question: is art imitating life or is life imitating art? Future residents of this masterpiece will determine the answer.
